Hormone Replacement Therapy

Many of us are well are well aware that maintaining an ideal weight is difficult despite the best efforts with diet and exercise.  What most don’t know is that an undetected hormone imbalance can be the hidden culprit sabotaging your hard work to stay slim and active.  Not only could it be sabotaging your weight loss but your mood, sleep, skin, bone, brain, and sex life.

What's the connection?

Hormones are key players in regulating weight, metabolism, blood sugar, insulin, and when and where the body stores fat.

Shifting hormones complicated by stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, etc., trigger numerous symptoms of imbalance – including unexplained weight gain. The good news is that testing is simple and can be done in office or in our clinic. We also offer medically supervised phentermine to get control of your food cravings and the HCG diet plan for individuals who want to lose thirty pounds or more.

What type of Hormones are we talking about?

In addition to Estrogen & Progesterone imbalance, Thyroid abnormalities are often not adequately diagnosed or addressed by women’s primary doctors and thus metabolism is declined.

Is hormone imbalance common?

The majority of American women have either Cortisol excess or a condition described as Adrenal Fatigue from prolonged elevated cortisol/stress elevation. Both conditions result in sugar cravings, impaired metabolism of other hormones, and low metabolic rate.

What hormones are involved in Hormone replacement therapy?

Testosterone and DHEA, often thought of as primarily a male hormones, are equally important in women and deficiencies lead to decreased lean muscle, decreased metabolic rate, and abdominal obesity.  Vitamin D (the solar hormone) is also implicated in weight gain if inadequate. Adult onset Growth Hormone deficiency is also very common and rarely ever tested or treated.

Hormone Imbalance can affect your sex life and your libido

Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) is often described as a disturbance in sexual function. It is multi-dimensional and can be caused by physiological, psychological, emotional and/or relational factors.  FSD can have a major impact on a woman’s sexual relationships, interpersonal relationships, quality of life, and even their general well being.

How does this affect me?

A healthy sex life has been indisputably shown to lower blood pressure, improve sleep, boost your immune system, as well as being a component in a myriad of other important bodily functions. We are Washington State leaders in helping women reclaim their sexual health, young and mature patients alike.  PROTECT™ Program clinics employ tried and true methods along with customized, new technologies.

What is the most common Sexual Disorder for women?

The most common type of FSD is Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), characterized by a lack of sexual thoughts and desire for sexual activity, which causes a woman distress or puts a strain on the relationship with her partner, and cannot be accounted for by another medical, physical or psychiatric condition.  It is estimated that one in 10 women may have the signs of HSDD.

Is Hormone Replacement Therapy right for me?

The importance of a broad based hormonal evaluation with a physician trained to interpret the findings is very valuable. It is not enough to simply consider one or two hormones without taking them all into context and addressing them all when necessary. The hormonal (endocrine) system works in a synchronous fashion and thus detection and treatment must be approached this way . Metabolic Syndrome (pre- diabetes) has been associated with shortened life span and heart disease and testing should include this detection when appropriate. Luckily testing is as simple as a finger stick today and treatment as simple as a once-per-day cream.
